Born in Brooklyn, little is known about Dexter DeShawn’s past. His place of origin is one of the few confirmed details regarding his life before arriving in Night City. A veteran of the Brooklyn streets, he was renowned for his loyalty, his business ethics, and his strict adherence to organized crime codes.

Dexter arrived in Night City in 2072 with a clear objective: to build a narcotics distribution network independent of any gang’s control. That same year, he began laying the foundations for the organization that would later be known as “The Hustlers.”

During his first few months, he avoided getting involved in territorial disputes. Instead, he scouted Night City, studying consumption habits, the dynamics of each district, and the routes used by the major criminal organizations. His goal was to identify an underserved market before making his first move.

Unlike other criminal organizations, Dexter avoided expanding through violence. His strategy consisted of identifying business opportunities, establishing stable supply chains, and building long-lasting commercial relationships rather than conquering territory.

Thanks to a contact in Pacifica, he secured a local supplier and began selling narcotics independently in the vicinity of Corpo Plaza and Downtown. After analyzing market trends, he concluded that the Corporate Center held the highest concentration of affluent clients and a steady demand for recreational substances.

Between 2072 and late 2074, the organization experienced rapid growth. The war between the Valentinos and Maelstrom had severely weakened the distribution networks of both gangs, forcing numerous dealers to abandon their operations. This supply shortage, coupled with a demand that remained stable, created the ideal scenario for Dexter’s expansion.

By late 2074, Dexter was already managing a network of ten permanent dealers, each with an extensive client portfolio consisting primarily of Corporate Center employees.

In March 2075, during a dispute with his regular supplier in Pacifica over a sudden price hike, a stranger watched the scene from a distance. His name was Aaron Waines.
